Merry Meet and Welcome!

Merry Meet Again! This blog is called Practical Magic and my aim is to teach spellwork for the beginner witch/wizard! I began my Wiccan path about 20 years ago and have grown ever since in power and strength as a witchy woman! I practice magic as a Solitary Green Witch and work with the powers within herbs, incenses and the essence of Colour in magic. Candle magic is my forte!!

I have a great interest in Animal Totems and my personal totems are the Dog, Gorilla, Raven and Lion. I saw my totem pole in a sacred dream once and have worked with these Power animals ever since. To me, Dog symbolises Loyalty, Gorilla - Benevolence, Raven - Protection and Lion - Strength. There are much more to these Power Animals and I will write a post describing working with the spirit of Totems.

I come from Britain where Animal have been held sacred by the Celts & Druids always alike Native America and Shamans of the Celts would work with their Power Animals as guides. I have a Druid Animal Oracle Deck and if you would like a reading, please get in touch at angelstaroracle@live.co.uk I enjoy reading the cards and this service is FREE!!!

I create crystal healing jewellery under the name of Ravenmoon Designs and my website www.ravenmoondesigns.co.uk has information pages on crystal affinities and astrology.

I hope you find the practice of Wicca as enthralling as I do and what ever your personal path, may you gain wisdom from these pages. Blessings!

The time of the Imbolc

Deep beneath the Earth
Awakens the Maiden
She stretches and gasps a breath
She makes sweet sounds
She sits up and looks around
Mother, where are you?
Here my dear!
Let us go see the sun together
Bright beautiful sunshine
A blue sky white wispy clouds
The warmth of Spring is here

Deep in the house the Amma has been busy
All is well prepared
The hearth fire is lit
The candles are burning
The chalice full of mylk
White roses of peace
A warmth to Her skin in the firelight
All is clean and new
A night's work
A morning's glory
Welcome in the Spring
Out with the old
In with the new
Sugar and spice and all things nice
That's what little girl's are made of!

The Imbolc blessings...

As winter turns to spring
We say goodbye to everything
That's dark or dusty
Or had it's day
To brighten up our merry way
Forward we go with renewed vigour

Laughing at our new found figure
As the weight dropped off
A new spring in my step
Party harder then I'll rest once more
Work harder than that
To feel alive
To make good the bad
To survive

Thanks be for love
Thanks be for praise
Thanks be to all those dull dark days
For all the shining light that burst forth
Into a new world of light we come
To celebrate as ONE

The magic of Imbolc

Every year at Imbolc I like to let the sun shine in! as the wheel turns to the spring it's all about letting life flow after the dark days of winter into the light once more. This year I spent Imbolc with my family celebrating the Maiden goddess with daughters laughing and singing.. How better!
Life takes on a whole new meaning at this time of year, and joy is everlasting. We feel renewed and full of life! as the maiden goddess shines so we are healed from everything that has hurt our being. It's a time to look to the future and begin to make plans. Everything that comes to be at Imbolc is ever growing through the year as the cycle turns and comes to fruition at Mabon. So begin a new world and start a new life with joy in your heart and light in your soul. Welcome to paradise!

Imbolc musings!

The Muse is in my heart this night
Wending Her merry way
Through my world, my life, my heart
Bringing peace divine
Looking through the Looking Glass
Alice and the White Rabbit
Run through my mind
Spreading bounds of joy
For every little girl and boy
I see a new Me with heightened perception
Of all I've come to be
Alive and well
With a story to tell
Of ancient times alive
Of walking the worlds of darkness and light
Through the day and throughout the night
Giving me excitement
Of changing things for the better
Bees buzzing round the hive
"Let's sing and be alive"
Great soul-Jah's tales of victory
For the world of Light
Of Lady and Lord
Those delicate etheric cords
Linking spirit and soul to the heavens
May light fill your world
May the heavens behold
All that is true and good
May blood warm
May souls unite
To make the world bright this night!
Blessed be

The Spirit of the COW!

The Spirit of the COW!

The cow a blessed creature symbolises all we know about the Goddess in Her Mother aspect. There be stories in Ancient Eireland that talk of three magical cows coming to the shore, one white (the Maiden), one red (the Mother) and the other black (the Crone). Although all aspects of the Goddess are represented here, the Cow symbolises everything We know of Motherhood most of all.

She nurtures, She cares
She cAtches Us unawares
She gives and receives
She runs through the leaves
She gathers, She collects
An abundance of things
Life is what She brings!

This little poem shows Us just how important a Mother is!!
The Mother Goddess gives Her life for Her children and is always happy to do so!!
In my experience children give you so much back with their little hearts, just a smile in the morning or a joyful laugh and I'm happy they're happy!!
Motherhood is such a joy for a woman and to me the Cow symbolises joy everlasting! Cows seem to walk about with a smile upon their faces and exude happiness and forgiveness.
Forgiveness is the "Key to Life" I've always felt!
So in this way Cows are a vital aspect to all We know and love! The Cow has so much to teach Us about how to be good people. They live together happily in large numbers, for a small field and are always seen to gather at watering holes.
This community living is a wonderful way for us Humans to be and learn from!
The Cow really does represent PEACE in it's true essence!
The peaceful and giving nature of the Cow shows Us how We can all live together happily and help to provide for Our families and One another.
By lending a hand and by giving practical help or even giving of Our work some how we can all provide for the starving, poor and needy people in this sad, sad World of Ours!

Peace is such a vital aspect of Life to truly appreciate the Human being in their best and only true nature!
How can We look at this World of Ours seeing war and famine and suffering of any kind without ACTING in some peaceful way to put it right!!

The Cow brings blessings in "Abundance"!!
Although as a VEGE-head I only see the Cow as a friend who lives happily around me, their Sacredness to Human has been revered in INDIA always.
Happily the people of BUDDHA hold the gentleness of the Cow as most important to it's nature and also live like I do, in true respect of the animal's FR-REEDOM!
Nice peeps!!

With Motherhood comes responsibility and the Cow and Her male Bull both show great protection to their young and loved One! The Bull will stand strong in the face of "Foe" and will charge at invaders when need be!
However the Cow is ALL Goddess' and remains protective in peace of the young and old. Woman could do much by learning of this blessed duality and the sacredness of the TRUST between Cow and Bull!

I feel this animal really epitomises the Goddess at Her best in all Her four aspects while living the Life of a Mother!
This teaches Us wimmin that Life begins with being a Mother whatever age that is for you!
Life has so much to offer Us in motherhood and the Goddess knows that! After all, the planet We live on that gives Us LIFE itself, is a MOTHER GODDESS, the MOTHER EARTH!

Thanks for reading mi lil prose, I hope you enjoyed mi rant!!
With joy I bring you a painting of the Cow I found on the net!

Imbolc Blessings!

Imbolc Blessings

With the Imbolc comes the spring,
New life in everything!
The Maiden Goddess plays her part,
She's in being now the spring doth start.
Bringing joy and peace and love so fair,
Flowers spring up everywhere!

The Muses are gathered now,
Helping Our hearts to express emotion.
An ode to the brown cow,
What a notion!

"Brown Cow, Brown Cow
With horns so bright
Looking out O'er the Highland night
Making sounds from deep within
Sounds of fertile Ages sing
May You be blessed with happy days
A'wandering the tracks and ways
May You have a blessed Spring
Full of Light, Life and everything
That's good for You and yours
Happiness is in little paws!"

The blessed Muse brings us news
Of Life and Love and Giving
Spring really is for Living!
 Happiness is in the giving
Beauty and Love are worth appreciating
Greatness of humankind
Brings to heart a good and strong mind
Wonder at the Hero and Heroine
Who brings about change
For ALL mankind!
Welcome to the magical world
Of Spring!

Blessings of renewal, fertility, prosperity be come to You!

IMBOLC Poem

As the blessed Spring arrives,
Flowers such as snowdrop grow,
Deep beneath the white clean snow.
Bridie, the Maiden pure and bright
Doth sing this blessed Imbolc night
Dancing through the gardens fair
To hasten blooms everywhere
Little bells do twinkle in the morn
Her copper mirror shines with the sun,
Bringing glory to everyone!

Around the holy spring and sacred well
Bride sings Her happy tale
Of healing fine o'er hill and dale
Gathering to celebrate
We do prayer ties make
Hoping for a brighter day
Singing and dancing 'ere so gay
With the colours white, yellow, pink
Pastels do our minds make think
Of the brightness of the Spring
Light and life in everything!

Brigdhe, the Maiden of Smithcraft
Brings to us Her sacred art
Casting metal in the forge
Creating from the elements
Of fire and earth
Water and Air
Beautiful creations abound
Birds sing all around
Beginning their year of nesting time
Spring-cleaning at yours and mine!

Hare, the Spirit of the Spring
Doth gentle rebirth bring
Renewing all they touch
Free they run
Through the fields
Flying with the moon
And shining with the Sun.
Merlin doth shapeshift to hare
Spreading His magic everywhere.
Let us learn to magic make
And bring happiness in our wake.

The Eagle too brings Springtime blessings
Glory, light and spirit strong
Soaring o'er the mountains all day long
Wings spread far to hold our heart
Love to us the eagle doth impart
Teaching of guidance of the soul
Spirituality will call
To everyone both big and small
Help the eagle will always bring
To those who are ready to sing!

Thank you Great Goddess for the Spring
For light and life and everything
For joy and happiness
Flower and tree
Filling the gardens of you and me
Renewal abounds for all to find
Within the soul, body and mind
Great are the days of shining sun
The year truly has begun!

Blessed Be
