Merry Meet and Welcome!

Merry Meet Again! This blog is called Practical Magic and my aim is to teach spellwork for the beginner witch/wizard! I began my Wiccan path about 20 years ago and have grown ever since in power and strength as a witchy woman! I practice magic as a Solitary Green Witch and work with the powers within herbs, incenses and the essence of Colour in magic. Candle magic is my forte!!

I have a great interest in Animal Totems and my personal totems are the Dog, Gorilla, Raven and Lion. I saw my totem pole in a sacred dream once and have worked with these Power animals ever since. To me, Dog symbolises Loyalty, Gorilla - Benevolence, Raven - Protection and Lion - Strength. There are much more to these Power Animals and I will write a post describing working with the spirit of Totems.

I come from Britain where Animal have been held sacred by the Celts & Druids always alike Native America and Shamans of the Celts would work with their Power Animals as guides. I have a Druid Animal Oracle Deck and if you would like a reading, please get in touch at angelstaroracle@live.co.uk I enjoy reading the cards and this service is FREE!!!

I create crystal healing jewellery under the name of Ravenmoon Designs and my website www.ravenmoondesigns.co.uk has information pages on crystal affinities and astrology.

I hope you find the practice of Wicca as enthralling as I do and what ever your personal path, may you gain wisdom from these pages. Blessings!

Halloween from dusk til dawn

From dusk til dawn,
the wych do fly.
Angels watch over without prying eye.
The Lord and the Lady gather for the feast.
Where will it end, the prince or the beast?
Tricks up your sleeve
Treats in your pot
Everyone laughing
At what you've got!

Whether your Russian, American or British,
We all celebrate the night of the pumpkin
The Jack O'Lantern burning
The baby awakes,
"Mummy can I have some more hot cakes?"
Why do we do it?
Well you might ask?
For fun, for merriment.
To just have a blast.

Some say the Wheel turns on this very night,
Some say at Midnight, the dew it be bright,
Full of moonlight,
Magic, Mystery and more
Try and see
You'll be ever sure!

Welcome to the magic of the Halloween!

The Mabon past..

As the copper hues of the leaves
Drift across the forest floor
May We pray all the more
For an abundance true
From nature

Thank you Mother Earth for the apples
The nuts, the berries
All those beautiful leaves
Thank you for the harvest of the autumn
Welcome to a new world of light
Where all is safe
All is well

The cloak of the Goddess
A cloak so fine
Woven anew each and every year
Leaves and grasses
Nuts and Berries
Copper, Russet all kinds of browns, yellows and reds
Animals I believe are making their winter beds
Thank you Lady for the seasons
Thank you Lord once too
For bringing such a balance
To Us from Nature golden
Thank you for the autumn sunshine
Thank you for each leaf
Thank you for each berry
That heals us from our grief
Thank you for the merry nuts
Of wanders far and wide
Thank you for the gifts You share
As the leaves do glide

Welcome to this season of abundance
Thank you for the gifts of autumn
Thank you for nature and all Her blessings
To the Lord I give my heart
To bring the strength of Light
To respect all Nature
To give a merry dance
To give a moment of celebration
A harvest supper
A bowl of fruits
Thank you from the bottom of my heart
Thank you for the Mabon!
Blessed BE

Autumn approaches...

Looking at the good year past
The bright happy summer sunshine
The smiling faces of little ones
Here comes the autumn
Harvest gathered in
A beautiful cornucopia of sweet honey
Happy daze!

Looking at the waves of the ocean
I sink deep
I know how the world can be
At one and in peace
Blessed be

The Autumn turned month by month
Bringing the winds of change
Strong and ever She rolls
Onward upward and away
Flying skyward to the heavens
And beyond to a world of light
Power and might
Blessed be this night

Autumn Equinox, Mabon Tidings

I bring you tidings of autumntime
Blessed in the sunshine
The leaves turn gold by the hour
The winds are strong
There's a passing shower
Powerful Autumn!
As Mabon turns the wheel
For one last time with zeal
The last blow-out bringing gusts galore
The winds of change far and wide
Happy daze!

Let's dance for the Mabon
Harvest blessings
Pumpkins at the ready
Gourds to dry for rattles
Snakes in the grass
Great times ahead
Bears find honey in abundance
Soft hearted and strong
With the day we belong
Come night the fire's lit
With flames ever sure
Of autumn bringing
Golden light
The morn looks bright

As we turn inward
We see the way
To a brighter day
Kisses on the wind
How now brown cow!
 Far out!
The deeper you look inside
The more you can hide
Away from the dark
In the light of the mind
Everything you can find
Joyful light to you and me
Meditation and vision see

Inner minds of light
What becomes of the Sight
Dear souls unite!
Love deep in your heart and mind
Your soul as One
Life with soulmate has begun!
Star seed meets like mind
Bliss is what you'll find
Thank you Lord for love's blessing
Thank you Lady for always kindness
May we pray to the heavens above
To be blessed in Love
Thank you kindly for marriage's vows
Deep in you heart
Your soul lives on!

The balance of life restored
Dark and light
Moon and Sun
Evermore since time has begun
The wheel turns for everyone!
Blessed be

With Our heart.....

With Our Heart
What we say and what we art,
Is all said with our heart!
As we venture life
Along our merry way
Remember a little bird doth say
Tomorrow will come for all
Today is a present for big and for small
Yesterday is a tale to tell round the fireside
Thanks be to one and all!

A Lammas Day in the Sunshine!

As the summer draws to a close
The Autumnal heat is strong
The first day of harvest bears it's fruit
It is here we belong
Scythes fly and thresh the corn
People busy around
Life begins with the autumn!

The games begin for Lughnasad
Crafts and skills are made
Welcome to the menfolk, young and old
To meet the challenge of strength
How far and wide Lugh's skills are shown
Teacher to one and all
Guides the skills of the younger ones
Runs and rides to gold

The Green Lady is in being now
Bringing joy and abundance
Harvest time is good for all
Blessings amongst us
Leaves are beginning to turn red and gold
Autumntime approaches
The days are growing ever shorter
Nights are drawing in
The ripening time is here!
A new essence to the warmth of the world
The heat is dry and pleasant
Warmth of the soul resides in us
Sharing, caring, loving
Picnics for families with children who play
In golden hay and grass
Loving the blessing of a new world

The Hedge Druid gathers the ears of corn
From first harvest cut
To make the Corn Dolly fine
To bring fertility back
Kept for months of wintertime to bury again at Imbolc
As we plant again next year
We remember yesteryear's harvest
With thanks and mercy on One and All
Happiness approaches
Welcome, Welcome to the Lammastime
Harvesting our goodies
A year's long toil
Is blessed with reward
Thanks to One and all
Blessings from the Earth Mother
Of food and shelter tall

Blessed be the Lammas!
For all to celebrate
Mother Goddess in all Her glory
Bountiful and fair
Thanks be to mothers everywhere
Sharing their kindness and generosity
Love to all abide
With joy we sing of life's true mercy
For within Mother this presides

Grainne the little sunny One
Dances in the Light
Sunshine lights Her path
Telling of Her might
With thanks for summer's loving blessing
Of shared union divine
Innocence is ever there
For those who honour woman

With blessings of the swan's a swimming
With blessings of the Unicorn
The Lammas Angel shines on high
With golden locks so fine
Her heart an ever-knowing presence
Her eyees a pure delight
With gracious gifts of innocence and might
Blessed Be!

Beltane Morn

On a delightful day like this, sun shining, breeze in your face. You start to appreciate the true meaning of PEACE! After all the furore of spring Equinox with Artha, the great She-bear in Our hearts and the Warrior Spirit strong during the time of Aries (linked to the planet Mars)
We deserve a break, a time to rest and recuperate, to look to the future with happiness and delight at the summer ahead. Bright sun on this day of the year, the blessed Beltane, is a wondrous blessing on your world! With summer in our hearts and minds we look to the warmth of the Father Sun, that great and wondrous being of light that cares deeply for Our souls! Fatherly energy represents protection, strength, purpose, poise and brings the loving arms of Our Father to us in the light of the day.

It is always a great blessing to wake in the morning after a good night's sleep rested and restored to celebrate life. Life is everything we know and love and the Sun's light brings a colourful new day at dawn. As the dawn breaks and the world begins to stir, all the beings of the planet unite in one purpose - TO LIVE THEIR LIVES! This is something we can all gel on! Life is a reality that unites us all on this planet. The "All That Is" in the essence of the heavens is a positive and vibrant influence on Our mindfulness. Along the lines of the Butterfly Effect, where it is said that a butterfly flapping it's wings in the rainforest could cause something positive to happen elsewhere on this planet such as a summer storm!!
The "All That Is" is the coherent knowledge and wisdom of all of us in positive thought, word and deed. It is however energetic filled with prayerfulness and great in it's essence. ALL THAT IS! Understood by all of us as being a guide to Our worlds. The humanitarian viewpoint of seeing there to be such a presence in the heavens is a good one. Life as we know it is greatly influenced by the positive guidance of our fellow man or woman or child. So a presence in the heavens that is like a memory of ALL THAT IS! allows us to reach deeper than ever before into beautiful worlds of happiness. We are truly guided by the light of the Heavens always and mankind has much to teach! Everything good that is done by Us is remembered by the heavenly ones and joins into One little world in the heavens above where it is protected by the Lord and Lady's hearts and minds. The All Seeing Eye of the Lord and Lady knows all we ever do and I feel that the Great Beings of heaven above wish to remember all Our good bits!! WE are able to teach Our own family and friends however the presence of the ALL THAT IS means everyone who is prayerful of heaven and Earth will know tha truth when they need to. Meditation is a powerful thing! As we sit quietly in meditation we are touched by the heavens above and all Our prayers are answered as we begin to rise spiritually. Spirituality is a great aspect of Life!

With the summer beginning we are able to see that Our prayers for a brighter day have become real blessings to Our world. This is the most peaceful time of the year and the summer of love ahead is protected by the peace of Beltane's morn. Thank you to all those who pray to keep this so. Peace is LIFE! Life is PEACE! Love UNITES. Unite with LOVE!

Mabon Spirit

Mabon Spirit

As the Autumn comes alive
The leaves begin to take a dive
Magic awakes from deep within
The Earth and us!
Happy days are here again
Joys abound
Plentiful harvest for everyone
Mother Earth's gifts
Pumpkins ready for festival next
Corn for this seems the best
From deep within the magic stirs
Like Ceridwen's cauldron!!
Mixing potions, brews and bakes
Harvest merriment makes
Mabon brings a welcome return
To the magical air of Autumn
You can touch the magic with your heart
Making mindful spells
Bringing ritual to the fore
Rites of Autumnal wealth bore
Blessings of a child forseen
To change the world we know
To that of peace and love!
With the wings of a dove She doth fly
Like toffee She sweetens You & I
Buttercups and Daisies in Her heart
Beauty She doth impart
Dancing through the glen
Awaken the world of men
To all that woman can be
How happy we are to see
A shining star awaken
Twinkling bright
Little starlight!

Blessed Be

Lammas Blessings

Lammas Blessings

The Mother Goddess

As we reach the beginning of the harvest and Autumn in it's traditional sense, the Sun ripening the fields of crops and warming our souls, we find the time of the "Mother Goddess".
The sacred site in Britain related to this festival celebration is Silbury Hill in Wiltshire. It symbolised a mother's pregnant womb and embodies fertilty at it's best. The Ancient Druids would journey here at the Lammas time (1st August) and celebrate the Mother Goddess at Her most fertile.

As this is a Mother Goddess celebration, the menfolk would gather together separately and celebrate Lughnasad (LOO-NAS-SAH). This celebration of the Celtic God Lugh, the god of craft, skill and master of many arts, was like the olympic games for menfolk!!
The Celtic God Lugh

Young men especially with the guidace of elders would celebrate together for the moon month. Fathers would be at the Lammas festival celebrating with the Mothers and their children.

In tradition their are many Mother Goddess' celebrated. DEMETER the mother of Persephone is also a Grain Goddess of the harvestime. Her blessed realm would be celebrated at Lammas with dancing and the making of Corn Dollys. The first ear of corn cut from the harvest was made into a Goddess' likeness and kept in the home til next year when it was planted into the fields in spring. This helped to ensure the fertility of the land and a good harvest. A fertilty dance at harvestime would help to celebrate the Mother Earth and the Goddess Ana at her most bountiful.

The sacred symbol for PEACE

Lammas Ritual
As this is the time of the harvest, it is nice to celebrate by making an offering of your harvest to the Mother Earth and the Fae. By leaving this offering you are giving thanks for all the bountiful gifts of the Great Mother. Another possibility is to have a picnic with family and friends celebrating of your harvest. Both aspects, the aspect of give-away and the aspect of enjoying yourself are always welcomed by the Mother Goddess' and the Great Mother Herself.

To quote the Native American Commandments of the Great Spirit:

"Dedicate a share of your efforts to the Greater Good"

Blessed Be
