Merry Meet and Welcome!

Merry Meet Again! This blog is called Practical Magic and my aim is to teach spellwork for the beginner witch/wizard! I began my Wiccan path about 20 years ago and have grown ever since in power and strength as a witchy woman! I practice magic as a Solitary Green Witch and work with the powers within herbs, incenses and the essence of Colour in magic. Candle magic is my forte!!

I have a great interest in Animal Totems and my personal totems are the Dog, Gorilla, Raven and Lion. I saw my totem pole in a sacred dream once and have worked with these Power animals ever since. To me, Dog symbolises Loyalty, Gorilla - Benevolence, Raven - Protection and Lion - Strength. There are much more to these Power Animals and I will write a post describing working with the spirit of Totems.

I come from Britain where Animal have been held sacred by the Celts & Druids always alike Native America and Shamans of the Celts would work with their Power Animals as guides. I have a Druid Animal Oracle Deck and if you would like a reading, please get in touch at angelstaroracle@live.co.uk I enjoy reading the cards and this service is FREE!!!

I create crystal healing jewellery under the name of Ravenmoon Designs and my website www.ravenmoondesigns.co.uk has information pages on crystal affinities and astrology.

I hope you find the practice of Wicca as enthralling as I do and what ever your personal path, may you gain wisdom from these pages. Blessings!

Animal magic - The spirit of the Horse

As we wander life's highways we look at the fields beyond and we see the Horse bounding round the grassy lowlands. this animal's spirit reminds us of travel in many ways as all you wanna do on the back of a horse is go a'wandering through the forest. You can find a wonderful view of the world from a horse's back as animals will venture closer than when you are on foot or in a motor!
What else does the horse help us to understand about life, well it's delicate nature. the feminine aspects of life are embodied by this animal and hence we could say "The Goddess". Softness and beauty are two strong aspects to this animal which are equally feminine qualities. The strength of the male animal in a stallion however perhaps shows us that the flip-side "the God" is just as highly attuned in this animal's nature.
how could we put these two aspects into one, how about the "Divine". The horse is a fabulous creature that makes you think of Pegasus or Unicorns, near on the most magical creature alive!
These dreamy aspects to the horse are as important to one's soul as the animal alive and kicking because they are alike magical tales of the animal herself. I am sure it is by getting to know horses in our lives that we will one day dream of a unicorn or seeing Pegasus fly. They as it were protect the magical dimensions of life.
Strength and mercy are qualities we aim to embody and this animal could help us to learn. How do we learn of a totem?
Well there is a plethora of ways to know of an animal, the best being to see them in their natural habitat just doing what they do! By watching carefully how they act and what their mannerisms are you can learn of their nature. See what movements they make and this can be worked into a dnace for shape-shifting. Whats this you ask? Well to become at one with an animal or bird while you are dancing is to truly learn of a totem and how to shape-shift. You really can fly like an eagle, prance like a horse or slither like a snake! Ancient shamans would appear to the tribe in this shapeshifting way.
The way of totem!

Magical creatures are animals and as they are so close to mother nature and the earth they help us to understand Her!
There are many more reasons that animals can become our greatest friends and anyone who has known a cat or dog at home would say so I'm sure! Totem teachings show us that not only can we learn from animals we can live alongside them happily and peacefully and we can learn the way of the shaman.

Blessings of a Shamanka be with you. Blessed be
